Custom monthly credits
Credits pay for the assistant’s work. A question costs about 1 credit. A task costs 2 to 10.
The assistant cannot spend credits by itself: every change starts as a plan with a price, and only your approval runs it.
The open-source framework is free under Apache-2.0, and cloud apps run on the same runtime. Start from the database you already have:
# Install the CLI and the packages your config imports
npm install @protobase/cli @protobase/schema \
@protobase/layout @protobase/server @protobase/ui
# Describe your tables, read in a read-only session
npx protobase scaffold postgres://you@localhost:5432/shop --ui
# Check every resource against the database
npx protobase doctor postgres://you@localhost:5432/shopCompare
Monthly cost for a team of 30 people with 3 builders, from each vendor’s public pricing page, October 2026.
| Product | Per month | How it adds up |
|---|---|---|
| Protobase Business | €49 | Unlimited users |
| Retool Business | about €516 | 3 builders at €46, 27 users at €14, billed yearly |
| Directus Team | $499 | Billed yearly |
Questions
Not during early access: payments are not switched on yet. Each plan has a fixed monthly price, and before the assistant changes anything, it shows a plan with its price. It cannot spend credits by itself: only your approval does. Planning is free, and a change that fails its checks costs nothing.
No. On Starter, an idle app sleeps and starts again on the next request, so an app you leave alone for months still opens. Pro and Business apps are never stopped for being idle.
Yes. The open-source framework is free under Apache-2.0, and cloud apps run on the same runtime. Build your app into one folder and serve it with one runtime file or the Docker image.
