Name policy
Last updated 16 October 2026
Every app on Protobase Cloud has a public address on protobase.net, such as crm.protobase.net, and every organization has a name. This policy explains how those names are given out and what happens when a name is misused.
1. First come, first served
- App addresses and organization names go to whoever claims them first, as long as the name is free and allowed.
- A new app’s address is based on the app’s name. When that address is taken, the organization’s name is added to it.
- Names are for apps and organizations you actually use. If the name you want is taken, pick another one, for example by adding a word or a hyphen. We do not release a name only because it looks unused: not everything on Protobase Cloud is public.
2. What a name can look like
- Lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or digit, at most 63 characters.
- We may set a minimum length, and limit how often an app can change its address.
3. Names we hold back
- Names Protobase uses itself, such as www, api, app, admin, auth, console, dashboard, docs, login, mail, status, signup and protobase, and region names such as eu1.
- Names that could pass for an official Protobase page or invite phishing, such as support, billing, security, help, account or verify, and the names of well-known brands.
4. Changing an address
- You can change an app’s address in its settings. The old address then redirects to the new one for a limited time.
- An address you give up, by changing it or by deleting the app, can be claimed again once that time is over. Update links and bookmarks that use the old address before then.
5. What is not allowed
- Claiming names to hold them for later, or to sell them. Buying, selling or asking payment for a name is not allowed.
- Using a name to pretend to be another person, company or Protobase itself.
- Using a name that infringes someone else’s trademark.
6. When we step in
As the operators of Protobase Cloud, we may at our discretion rename, remove or reassign a name, for example:
- when it breaks this policy, such as a squatted, misleading or impersonating name;
- after a valid trademark complaint, including one from a customer;
- to resolve a conflict between organizations over a name, including for customers.
Where we can, we tell the organization first. A name that breaks this policy may be changed without notice.
7. Report a problem
To report a name that impersonates you, infringes your trademark or otherwise breaks this policy, email [email protected] with the address or name, and why it is a problem. For a trademark complaint, include the trademark and its registration.
